Using Garden Fountains
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008If you really want to make a statement in your garden, consider garden fountains. They are not as difficult to install as you may think. As a matter of fact, the installation of such fountains are not difficult at all.
Many garden fountains today do not tap into water lines. This makes for easy installation. Instead, they are filled with water and run on electricity. The garden fountains have a filter and pump that is very similar to what you would have in a fish tank. The garden fountains give the illusion of constantly running water where it is really just the same water that is recycled over and over.
Years ago, garden fountains were tapped into water systems. When the water was turned on, the fountain would run. When the water was turned off, the fountain stopped. Buckingham Fountain in Chicago is a perfect example of such a fountain. It is one of the largest garden fountains in the Midwest and is owned by the City of Chicago.
Most people do not have the money of the City of Chicago and cannot afford to constantly run water in their gardens to make their gardens look attractive. Hence, they use modern garden fountains that can give the same illusion only without wasting water. And they are a lot easier to install than a large garden fountain that needs to be attached to the water main.
You can find garden fountains in a number of different places as they are now all the rage. You can have statutes, angels, animals or just bubbling brooks in your garden fountains. They are not expensive and add tremendous appeal to your garden.
One caveat to using garden fountains is that you need to actually plan where you want to install the fountain. As it will run on electricity, you need to find out how you plan to hide the cord. Many people who have garden fountains will run the cord under a deck or hide it among plants. You do not want the cord to be visible as it will ruin the appearance of the garden.
Another caveat is that one garden fountain will do quite nicely in a small garden. Two work well in a large garden. A bunch of garden fountains all over the place looks tacky and will make your garden not look like a showplace but an eyesore.
Look for garden fountains at your local garden center or online. Before your purchase, map out how you wish your garden to look when it is complete. Then work towards adding the right ornaments, such as garden fountains, to the look. This does not have to be done overnight, either. Most gardens take years to come into full bloom (pun intended).
Planning is everything when it comes to your garden. You can alter your plans every once in a while, but you should have an idea of what you want to put in certain places and realize that less is more. Take a look at gardens that you admire either in magazines, books or even in your neighborhood and work out a plan before you begin. By using garden fountains, you can have a beautiful focal point in your garden that will not waste water and will look peaceful and serene.
